I worked for the Home Office for 18 years in immigration and probation departments as an administrator/policy maker with 2 years on secondment to the post riot Inner City Task Force in North Kensington (Ladbroke Grove) the predecessor of the Safer Cities programme. All this time I was taking OU modules and then a MA in Criminology at Middlesex University part time. I left to do a PhD in Car Crime.
My last permanent post was as Joint Director of Sociology and a Senior Lecturer at St Mary's University College where I Iectured in criminology and media. I am active in the British Society of Criminology (ex Chair of the Southern Branch and still on the Executive Committee). For the final years of the Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice at King's College London I was a visiting tutor and ran the Internship Module.
Some of my media appearances and writing appear on other pages. As a teacher at a small institution I've been obliged to cover the whole range but my interests are wide anyway so don't be surprised to see work on CCTV, green criminology, queer criminology, masculinities, sport, radio, videogames, and even more on my public criminology and sports criminology blogs.
Been known to keep fit.
